On July 27, 2021, Jerry Hugh Lane breathed his last breath here and began his greatest and grandest adventure in his new Home.

Jerry was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on March 28, 1941, to Gene and Cassie who were a rock-solid source of support and encouragement in his life. Jerry grew up on Adams Avenue with his brothers Jack and Gene who doled out all sorts of antics, and Grannie Harrigan who doled out all sorts of sugar. How they all lived together in that small house is a mystery and a miracle.

Along the road of his life, he found joy in his children: Michele, Denise and Terry. When he met his precious pearl, Jo, the light in his eyes had a whole new spark of joy to it. His grandchildren and great grandchildren expanded that joy exponentially.

Jerry had around 100 vehicles throughout his lifetime. If it had wheels and a motor, he was checking it out. His own words to describe himself were car nut and motor head. The words his children and grandchildren used to describe him are patient, generous, supportive, encouraging, dependable, amiable, compassionate, welcoming, inviting, thoughtful, and fun. They see him as a person who was steadfast in love, cherished and was caring towards his family, and was willing to draw others into his life. In his convictions and his career, he fought like a tiger for those who needed an advocate and a voice. He was also a tender Dad who held his daughter through the long night, carried his daughter in civil rights marches, and carried his son through freezing temperatures for 9 miles when the car of the year, a red 1960 Pontiac station wagon, got stuck in the snow. He always carried those he loved in his heart and prayers no matter where he was, or where they were.

Jerry attended Westminster College and the University of Utah where he studied geology and social work. He retired in 1997 from 30 years of service in the state of Utah as a social worker. After hitting the road for a great and grand adventure, Jerry and Jo created homes in Donnelly, Idaho and Yuma, Arizona that were filled with love and peace and were always open and joyful- even for critters of all kinds. Memories of homemade ice cream, feeding critters, dinner out, planting trees, fishing, fishing and more fishing fill our hearts.

Jerry’s faith was a quiet, yet firm source of strength in his life. In a testimony he gave to the men of his church after his cardiac bypass surgery, he said these words

“Am I thankful to be standing here – living and breathing and speaking to you? Well, you can bet your boots I am. Am I thankful to our Triune God for His love, healing touch and saving grace? I am and you can bet your life on Him too. “

It’s no surprise then that some of the last words he was able to communicate to us were “God is forever. I see Him. Blue Skies” (a reference to the Willie Nelson version of that song). This is what gives us hope, gladness and peace as we celebrate Jerry’s life and Homegoing.

The Donnelly foxes, deer and squirrels miss you.

The Yuma turtles and road runners miss you.

We miss you, and will continue to miss you,
every day in different ways.

WELUVUTONS!YOUDABEST!YOUBETURBOOTS!

That’s all we know.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Eugene Terrence and Cassie Williams Lane.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Lane; brothers Jack (JoAnn) Lane and Gene Lane; children Michele (Bryan) Fridlund, Denise (Lloyd) Thayne, Terry (Sandy) Lane, and Jeff (Sally) Alworth; grandchildren Nathan (Amy), Adam (Samantha), Jeremiah, Elena, Christen (Allan), Cassie (Brent), and Daniel; great grandchildren Nora, James, Kurtis and Karter.

Due to the resurgence of COVID, the family has chosen to schedule the celebration of life for June 18th, 2022 , the day before Father’s Day. This will be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming. This was not an easy decision. We thank you for your graciousness as we make these difficult choices.

If you are considering a gift, would you consider donating to Racers For Christ?

This organization is the perfect intersection of Jerry’s love for God, cars and his son, Terry, who is a chaplain for RFC.

  1. We’re so glad you’ve visited Jerry’s site. This is a work in progress, so thank you for your patience as we add more features and content.

  2. I was a cousin of Jerry’s who was closer in age to Gene and we did get into a little trouble together. I have such fond memories of Cassie, her boys and Great Aunt Ella. COVID took my husband last November so totally understand the need to wait for Jerry’s services.
My love and condolences to Jerry’s wife children and brothers.

    1. Sandee,
It is such an encouragement to know that there you share sweet memories with us. Please accept our condolences for your own loss. May peace surround you.
